How to get from the apartment to the Football Museum

From the apartment to the Football Museum, you don’t need to change trains:

  • 350 m on foot (about 5 min) to the Schützenstraße underground stop.
  • Take the U47, at times also the U49, two stops to Dortmund Hbf, the main station.
  • At the main station, take the main exit, not the north exit, which leads away from the museum. The museum is directly opposite, about 5 min on foot.

According to the museum, the Kampstraße and Westentor underground stops are also close by; the U47 stops at Kampstraße as well.

On foot, it is about 16 minutes to the north side of the main station. From there, walk through the station to the main exit; the museum is opposite.

Museum admission does not include a VRR transit ticket, so you need a separate ticket for the light rail, for example from the DSW21 app.

What awaits you at the German Football Museum

The museum opened in 2015. It is run by the DFB-Stiftung Deutsches Fußballmuseum, whose shareholders are the German Football Association (DFB) and the City of Dortmund. 1,600 exhibits tell 140 years of German football history. The second half of the exhibition is devoted to club football, among other topics.

The exhibition areas include the Miracle of Bern, the treasure chamber, a 3D cinema, the 360° Bundesliga show, women’s football and the national team’s finest hours.

The address is Platz der Deutschen Einheit 1, 44137 Dortmund. You’ll find current opening hours and tickets on the museum’s official website.

Combine the Football Museum, Borsigplatz and the stadium

Two more destinations connected to BVB are easy to reach from the apartment by light rail.

Like JayBnB, Borsigplatz is in the Nordstadt. Borussia Dortmund was founded on December 19, 1909, at the “Zum Wildschütz” inn on nearby Oesterholzstraße. According to the City of Dortmund, after every championship the parade heads to Borsigplatz and does several laps of the square. Take the U47 to Kampstraße and change there to the U44 towards Westfalenhütte as far as Borsigplatz.

To get to Signal Iduna Park, take the U45 from the main station: on match days to the Stadion stop, otherwise to Westfalenhallen. Right by the stadium is the BORUSSEUM, BVB’s club museum. Unlike the museum ticket, a BVB match ticket counts as a combined ticket for one outward and one return journey on local public transport on match day. More about match day and getting there on our page about Signal Iduna Park.

Staying near the Football Museum: hotel or apartment?

If you are looking for a hotel near the Football Museum, you’ll find something different with us: a home for a while in a Gründerzeit townhouse from 1906, two light rail stops from the main station. If you arrive by train, change at the main station, where the museum is, to the U47 to the apartment. The apartments are fully furnished, for a few days, weeks or months. That works especially well if you are coming with family or friends, for the museum and a match on the same weekend, for example:

  • Room for 2 to 6 guests, a large double bed in every apartment, two bedrooms in the larger ones.
  • Kitchenette with microwave and kettle, Nespresso machine, dining table and couch.
  • Private bathroom with rain shower, smart TV with Netflix, fast Wi-Fi and a desk.
  • Your bed is made up when you arrive; bed linen and towels come from a professional laundry service.

Good to know: parking and check-in

By car, take the Dortmund-Hafen exit on the A45, then drive about 4 km along Mallinckrodtstraße. You park on Gneisenaustraße, currently free of charge; the fallback is P+R Hafen, 400 m away. For the museum, you can leave the car where it is and take the U47. If you do drive into the city center, the museum points to the underground car park at the main station. By bike: the bike station at the main station is directly opposite the museum.

Check-in is from 17:00, check-out by 10:00. If you need other times, please agree them with us in writing beforehand.

You can also book a single night.
