Guest guide Trade fairs Messe Dortmund & Westfalenhallen

Accommodation for Messe Dortmund and the Westfalenhalle

To stay for a trade fair in Dortmund, you don’t have to sleep next to the exhibition grounds. From JayBnB in Dortmund’s Nordstadt, you take the light rail to the Westfalenhallen and change only once, at the main station. The apartments sleep 2 to 6 guests, with a kitchenette, desk and fast Wi-Fi, for a few days at the fair or longer.

Getting to Messe Dortmund by light rail

It is 350 meters, about 5 minutes on foot, to the Schützenstraße light rail stop; the underground station has an elevator. From there, the U47 and the U49 take you two stops to the main station. Change there to the U45 towards Westfalenhallen and ride to the Westfalenhallen stop; coming from the U47, you stay on the same underground platform. According to Messe Dortmund, the ride from the main station takes about 10 minutes.

Alternatively, stay on the U47 to Stadtgarten and change there to the U46, which according to Messe Dortmund takes about 5 minutes to Westfalenhallen. According to Messe Dortmund, the main station, Stadtgarten and Westfalenhallen stops are accessible for people with disabilities. The U49 does not run in the evenings or on Sundays and public holidays. Then take the U47 from Schützenstraße, for a concert at the Westfalenhalle, for example.

Whether there is a Deutsche Bahn event ticket for travel to your trade fair is up to each organizer, who will list it on their website. You can buy tickets for buses and trains in Dortmund in the DSW21 app.

Messe Dortmund: park there or leave the car at the house

There are about 8,800 parking spaces around the exhibition grounds. Parking tickets for trade fairs are only available on site, not online. Motorcycles, mopeds, scooters and bicycles park free of charge. Motorhomes and caravans use car park D2 on Maurice-Vast-Straße, without sanitary facilities or electricity; check with the operator DOPARK beforehand whether there is space and whether you can stay overnight.

If you stay with us, the car can stay at the house: you currently park free of charge on Gneisenaustraße, with P+R Hafen 400 meters away as a fallback. You then take the light rail to the fair. To reach the house, take the A45, exit Dortmund-Hafen, then about 4 km along Mallinckrodtstraße.

Westfalenhalle: concerts, congress and exhibition halls

Messe Dortmund, Kongress Dortmund and the Westfalenhalle belong to the Westfalenhallen group. The trade fair uses nine halls with almost 60,000 m² of gross floor space. Dates are listed in the trade fair calendar.

The Westfalenhalle itself is a listed concert and event arena for up to 16,140 people, with around 200 events a year, from concerts to European and world championships in sports. The Westfalenhalle event finder shows what is on. From the Westfalenhallen stop, it is 800 to 950 meters on foot to Signal Iduna Park.

Tips for trade fair days and your stay

What applies to your trade fair is on the organizer’s website. These differences are worth knowing before you book:

  • Book early: for JAGD & HUND, the organizer advises booking accommodation early because high demand is expected.
  • With a dog: dogs are welcome at JAGD & HUND, and visitors may bring their dogs to the Hund & Pferd dog show; there the dog needs its own dog ticket from the online shop. Both require proof of rabies vaccination. Pets are allowed at JayBnB.
  • Without a dog: at CREATIVA and INTERMODELLBAU, dogs are not allowed in the exhibition halls.

Accommodation for the fair: apartment instead of hotel

Instead of a hotel room near the fair, you stay with us in a fully furnished apartment with a private bathroom with rain shower, toilet and LED mirror. The kitchenette has a microwave and kettle, and there is a Nespresso machine, dining table and couch, a desk, fast Wi-Fi and a smart TV with Netflix.

Every apartment has a large double bed, the larger ones have two bedrooms, so depending on the apartment 2 to 6 guests can stay. Your bed is made up when you arrive, bed linen and towels come from a professional laundry service, and there is a washing machine. You can see all apartments under Apartments. If you are traveling on business with colleagues, read on under Business.
